Accusations of extremism and antisemitism were featured as prominent elements of the recent American Presidential elections. In order to better understand the origin and presence of extremism in American society I will trace it's history from the American Civil War to its current manifestations, and illustrate both connections and differences between the traditional and newer forms of extremism, particularly as they surfaced during the presidential campaigns.
