![]() Sala B/Ghiță Ionescu (8, Spiru Haret st.), December 17th, 12:00 On Wednesday, December 17th 2014, The Political Science Club (formerly known as The SPE Nation Club) will have its last event of this year and, in the spirit of the winter holidays, it will organize a movie screening and debate that revolves around Christmas. As the song says, Christmas is "the most wonderful time of the year" - a time when (supposedly) the everyday problems are put aside, and people find inner peace in the comfort of their homes while being surrounded by friends and family members. However, the situation is not always so in politics, where the fire of conflict (from the chimney) is still sparked by more or less subtle remarks regarding the opposition or individuals who share different ideas and values. Some politicians choose to antagonize "the other side", others present themselves in a superior and more ethical light, but they all capitalize on the winter holidays to promote their message. Join us for a very political communication-oriented debate, as we will watch clips with holiday greetings from various political figures from Romania, the United States of America, and Great Britain. This comparative perspective is meant to show how such a globalized holiday like Christmas can be used and understood by political elites in different ways, in order to fulfil an agenda. The estimated length of the event is one hour. The Political Science Club, an initiative of the FSPUB students from the English language study programmes. All students are welcomed at the Club’s public events. |
